Here are a couple of shots from Kayla’s second outing, this time from majestic Gates Pass. On the verge of a giant summer storm, it was quite dramatic!

Just wanted to take a quick moment to post a few images from our last signature session with Brittany, this time from sunny Mt. Lemmon and appropriately dramatic Windy Point. Braving the terrible weather reports, we forged ahead and got a ton of excellent shots. Thanks for sticking it out, guys — I think they’re totally worth it!

I’ve been wanting to take a trip downtown to do a shoot like this for quite some time, so I’m glad that Will decided to take me up on it. We got a batch of really cool shots and even though we all sweated off ten pounds and were on the verge of passing out, I think it was worth it! We also did a bit of shooting up at the studio so we could get some dramatic desert shots, and while they’re a bit stylistic, I think they’re really neat looking. Sometimes the sky does exactly what you want it to do, and in that case, I couldn’t have set it up any better myself!

I’ll go ahead and admit it, the fun thing about location photography is that it is, on occasion, fantastically terrifying. I don’t mean this in any sort of negative way, just in that thrilling, driving-too-fast-down-a-hilly-mountain-road sort of way. It’s all about adapting to the situation, and doing the absolute best with what you’re given. In Jenny’s case, I think that we did a fantastic job. Sure, it was an unfamiliar location, but she was so prepared (I seriously wish I’d taken a photo of the meticulously notated stack of fashion magazines that she plopped down in front of me.) that once we settled into our groove, we were getting really great shots.
And then, in a moment of splendid stupidity, I fell on my face and busted my arm up. Predictably enough, my first concern was for the camera — not the bloody gash in said arm. Amazingly enough, it survived the fall (a sterling endorsement for the durability of the Canon’s body and lens design) which meant only one thing: we’d finish up the shooting at that location! A dumb move? Probably, but we were in a groove! Amazingly, the batch that we did afterward was even better. Funny how that happens, eh?
That’s the beauty of location photography. You never know what’s going to happen, but it’s always exciting and in this case, we got some pretty fantastic shots out of it. Thanks so much to Jenny and her family — I can’t wait to see what happens in part two of the shoot.
Hopefully fewer faceplants!

I recently had the opportunity to photograph Kayla as the first of our new Signature Sittings and I think it’s pretty clear we had an excellent time! Thanks to Kayla and her mom for coming out and having a great shoot — it was the perfect way to kick-start the senior season.
